Almost as if being on the surface of the Moon

There is another incredibly high quality APOD image that shows today 24. June 2012 an eerie lunar landscape from the Taurus-Littrow valley. The picture was taken during the Apollo 17 landing on December 11.-14. 1972.

The presence of astronaut Harrison Schmitt in this exceptionally sharp photo gives the picture a very rare billion dollar human scale (it costed $1 536 000 000 in 1997 dollars to get him there according to Artemis estimate). His white space suite helps viewers to estimate the size of the rocks on the ground and gives human dimensions to the arid landscape with no atmosphere to soften the sight.

Last men on the Moon
Ronald Evans stayed in the lunar orbit while Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt landed on the surface of the moon at 2:55 PM EST December 11 and lifted off December 14 at 5:55 PM EST 1972.

Since they left no humans have walked on the Moon.

Harrison Hagan "Jack" Schmitt (born July 3, 1935) is an American geologist, a retired NASA astronaut, university professor, and a former U.S. senator from New Mexico.
Eugene Andrew Cernan (born March 14, 1934) is a retired United States Navy officer and a former NASA astronaut and engineer. He has been into space three times: as pilot of Gemini 9A in June 1966; as lunar module pilot of Apollo 10 in May 1969; and as commander of Apollo 17 in December 1972, the final Apollo lunar landing.
Ronald Ellwin Evans, Jr. (November 10, 1933 – April 7, 1990) was a NASA astronaut and one of only 24 people to have flown to the Moon. He also served as a Captain in the United States Navy.
